The days of using cut plug herring for salmon are long behind me. I’ve found artificial lures that can be stuffed with bait perform as well as baits on most occasions. For years I’ve been using Brad’s Killer Fishing Gear Super Baits and Cutplugs with great success for King and Coho Salmon, Kokanee, and Rainbow Trout on lakes, the Columbia River, Puget Sound, an the ocean. This year Yakima Bait Company came out with their “Spinfish” lure which at first seems like something of a knockoff but upon closer inspection shows marked differences and improvements over its competitor. Both lures are proven fish killers for me and each has its own set of strength of weaknesses.
